Hong Kong residents are being warned to be careful about how much personal information their Internet service providers are collecting from them and to find out what the firms might do with it.
A netizens’ rights concern group, Keyboard Frontline, looked into how nine companies collected data on their customers and found that only four make it clear they would only disclose that information to the authorities with a warrant or court order.
The group also said that not all of the companies publish their privacy policies online.
IT sector legislator Charles Mok said people need to consider privacy issues when they sign up with an internet company.
