A Kwun Tong magistrate has criticised the government for working too slowly on a case where six people are charged over a suspected bomb plot.

The six are accused of conspiracy to cause an explosion, after explosive chemicals were found at a disused ATV studio in Sai Kung during a police raid in June.

Prosecutors asked for a four-week adjournment on Friday to go through relevant documents. But Magistrate Don So said the senior assistant director of public prosecutions, Peter Power, should come to court to explain why so much time was needed.

Prosecution then agreed to shorten the adjournment to two weeks, avoiding a court appearance for Power. No plea has been entered.

Five of the defendants – Chan Yiu-sing, Cheng Wai-shing, Rizzy Pennelli, Wu Kai-fu, and Man Ting – have been remanded in custody. A female suspect, Sarene Chan, has been released on bail.
