Former Chief Secretary Henry Tang has brushed aside calls for Hong Kong to "de-colonise".

Tang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was asked if he agrees with the head of Beijing's top think tank on Hong Kong, Chen Zuo'er, that Hong Kong needs to shake off its colonial legacy in order to boost development.

Tang stressed the Basic Law has served the SAR very well over the last 18 years, and that people should continue to abide by the mini-constitution.

Tang's comment echoes those of the Financial Secretary, John Tsang as well as the Secretary for Justice, Rimsky Yuen, who have said that Hong Kong simply needs to follow the Basic Law when it comes to developing the city.
