The health secretary, Ko Wing-man, appears to be once again downplaying any link between developmental delays found in children with excessive levels of lead in their blood.
In an exclusive interview with RTHK, Ko said it was normal to see developmental issues in children of a particular age.
Since lead-tainted tap water has been found at over a dozen public housing estates and some schools, the government has taken blood samples from children under six, who may have been affected by scare.
Over 100 of these children tested positive for excessive lead levels in their blood. Of these, eight children had developmental delays.
Ko said some of these children may already be suffering from the problem even before the scandal broke out, and stressed the government will continue to monitor their situation.
