After having awarded the contract already, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) now says it is going to seek people's views on the revitalisation plan of the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade.

The department said it is going to ask people what they think of the design of the facilities planned and how the promenade should be operated.

A deputy director of LCSD, Louis Ng, said New World Development (NWD), which is responsible for the project, could incorporate some of the ideas put forward.

Ng also insisted there was nothing wrong with giving NWD the job without putting it out to tender, saying the arrangement was both reasonable and legal.

The revitalisation plan covers Salisbury Garden next to the Art Museum, the Avenue of Stars and the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade. Work could take up to three years.

Nearby residents and businesses have strongly opposed to the plan, saying they were not consulted and that the blueprint ignores their interests. There are also worries that valuable open public space will be lost.
