Upstate New York police shot and killed a male Chinese exchange student on September 10 who police say was repeatedly stabbing a Chinese girl at an apartment near Clarkson University.  The woman was later pronounced dead at hospital.

After police arrived, they say they saw the man on top of the victim, repeatedly stabbing her and himself. When the man refused to comply with a police warning to put down his weapon, officer Matt Seymour fired five shots at the suspect, killing him.

The identities of the suspect and victim have not yet been released by police, but both are confirmed to be Chinese citizens attending Clarkson University. Police do not have a motive, but believe it may be a domestic dispute.

The USA is the top destination for Chinese exchange students. During the 2013-2014 academic year, there were 274,439 Chinese exchange students in the USA, comprising a quarter of all foreign students.
