Too bad for September brides.
They’ll have to have their rustic wedding pictures taken elsewhere while the Nam Sang Wai jetty undergoes repairs this month.
The famous wooden structure, christened “Wedding Bridge”, has been a platform for countless wedding photos with the Yuen Long countyside in the background.
Ming Pao is reporting the jetty collapsed recently, leaving loose wooden slabs perched precariously on stilts.
Liber Research Community, a research group focused on local issues, said in a Facebook post that the bridge is badly damaged in many places and planks have fallen into the water.
It was last refurbished in 2012, according to netizens.
A village store owner said a production crew replaced the wooden panels for a film shoot earlier this month but the material might not have been durable.
Villagers said they plan to repair the bridge in mid-September.
They warned tourists and couples who come for wedding photos to take extra care when using the bridge after it’s rebuilt.
Yuen Long district councilor Kwong Chun-yu said the villagers cannot expect the government to repair the bridge because they had it built themselves.
Kwong is opposed to a plan by Henderson Land to redevelop the area.
He said the Wedding Bridge is a Nam Sang Wai landmark and it has withstood damage over the years.
