Lee Cheuk-yan
Unionist lawmaker, Lee Cheuk-yan, expressed concern on Thursday that the Chief Executive, CY Leung, was hinting he would get a second term in office by asking for more time to introduce new laws regulating standard working hours.
The issue was one of the pledges Leung made in his election manifesto in 2012, but lawmakers, including those from the pro-Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, have criticised him for making little progress.
Leung told lawmakers in a question-and-answer session in the Legislative Council that the matter was a complex one, insisting that the government was not dragging its feet on the issue.
But Lee, who is also the chairman of the Labour Party, said there was simply not going to be enough time for the government to complete the legislative process before Leung's current term in office ends in 2017.
