Education lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen on Thursday became the first pan-democratic lawmaker to be named to a key post on Legislative Council’s committees.
He was named as the vice chairman of the Panel on Education after no one proposed an alternative.
Pro-Beijing lawmakers have so far delivered crushing defeats to pan-dem nominees for seven key posts in different Legco panels, including sensitive panels like Security and Financial Affairs.
As the elections in 10 other panels are scheduled for Thursday, Ip said it is a bad sign to see other legislators from his camp being shut out from the chairmanships.
