More than 40 people took part in a demonstration on Sunday against a decision by the Department of Justice to prosecute Occupy protester and Civic Party member, Ken Tsang, saying the move amounted to political suppression.
Holding yellow umbrellas, the protesters marched from Southorn Playground in Wan Chai to Police Headquarters, before proceeding to the department’s office in Admiralty.
They said that by prosecuting Tsang, the department was trying to divert attention away from the case of seven police officers who allegedly beat him up.
Tsang was charged last Thursday with allegedly obstructing and assaulting police officers, hours after the seven officers were charged for allegedly beating him in a dark corner of Tamar Park. The offences are said to have been committed during the pro-democracy Occupy movement in October last year.
Tsang and the seven officers will appear in Eastern Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, supporters of the seven policemen have called on people to turn up at the court building to show their support for them.
