Ted Hui
A magistrate has upheld his decision to acquit Democratic Party district councillor Ted Hui of assaulting two security guards when he tried to force his way into a government building in Central last year.
But upon the request of the prosecution, Fanling Magistrate Colin Wong ordered that Hui be bound over in the sum of HK$1,000 for a year. He agreed with the prosecution's argument that Hui’s action had caused others to fear that violence would break out.
The Central and Western District councillor had a scuffle with the guards when he tried to stop the passage of a funding request to promote the Basic Law.
Hui said he will discuss with his lawyer whether to appeal the magistrate’s decision.
