A former adviser to the central government, Lew Mon-hung, had threatened to ask the central government to make Chief Executive CY Leung resign if he did not stop a corruption probe against him.

This was revealed in the District Court where Lew is on trial for allegedly perverting the course of justice.

He is accused of writing to both Leung and the head of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Simon Peh, in 2013, asking them to stop the corruption probe against him and several others.

The prosecution said that in the correspondence, Lew allegedly said if the ICAC did not terminate what he called the "groundless accusations" against him, he would take revenge.

Lew allegedly threatened to "detonate a political bomb", adding that he would write to foreign media and the central government to put pressure on Leung to resign.

Lew's personal secretary also testified for the prosecution. She said Lew had asked her to type one of the letters concerned and email it to Leung and Peh. She said she also delivered another letter to the Chief Executive's Office, and had written on the envelope "very urgent, confidential", and "only the Chief Executive himself should read it".

Lew was once a staunch supporter of CY Leung, but later became a stern critic, accusing him of going back on a promise to appoint him to the Executive Council.

The hearing continues.
