Democratic Party legislator James To has called on the police to step up the search for the five missing men linked to an anti-Beijing bookstore in Causeway Bay. To said the force should put more resources into finding them.

The five disappeared separately between October and the end of last month. The last to disappear, Lee Bo, went missing at the end of December in Chai Wan. There is widespread speculation that mainland public security officers may have been involved.

“I would not deny that the Missing Person Unit has tried their best effort to investigate,” he said. “But there are only several persons in their unit.”

To said more police units should be involved in the case so more resources would be available.

Currently the Missing Person Unit, the Crime Unit and the Tactical Unit are investigating.

The Chief Executive, CY Leung, has said he is concerned about the case and that mainland security officials do not have any authority in Hong Kong.

Lee Bo was the only one of the five to go missing from Hong Kong. Three of the men disappeared after travelling to the mainland. Another, Gui Minhai, disappeared in Thailand.
