Veteran democrat Albert Ho - who's a member of the Hong Kong Alliance that organises the annual June 4th candlelight vigil - says it's regrettable that the Federation of Students has decided to withdraw from this year's event.
The alliance calls for the vindication of the student-led pro-democracy movement in 1989 that was brutally stamped out by mainland authorities.
But Mr Ho says he respects the student group's decision.
He noted that back then, it was the federation who first organised protests in support of the students in Beijing. And he said he hopes this generation of student leaders will remember that.
