Ivan Ho talks to RTHK's Janice Wong
An architect said on Tuesday that from all indications so far, the rooftop with a garden that collapsed at the City University of Hong Kong on Friday, can be described as an unauthorised building extension.
Ivan Ho, a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, said from what he had seen so far from the media, the additions made should not have been made without approval.
He said a structural work plan of the rooftop should have been submitted to the Buildings Department, adding that it was impossible for the university to avoid taking responsibility as the owner of the structure.
But Ho said it was difficult for department officials to run around and check every roof in Hong Kong. He told RTHK’s Janice Wong that the public can help by alerting the department about any roof they think has a problem.
Two people were injured when the roof collapsed, and another was sent to hospital with shock.
