University of Hong Kong student leaders said on Tuesday that they will hold a forum to discuss Hong Kong's future when they commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Beijing massacre on June 4.

They said a forum will be held at the campus' Sun Yat-sen Place after the student union reads out its statement on the bloody crackdown in 1989. Before that, they will observe a minute’s silence but there would not be any singing or lighting of candles.

The acting chairman of the student union council's current affairs committee, Samuel Lai, said the future of Hong Kong was a very urgent issue and that was why they have decided to talk about it.

Among those taking part in the discussion will be Hong Kong Indigenous' spokesman Edward Leung, who has been calling for an independent Hong Kong, and localism advocate Chu Hoi-dick who is a member of the Land Justice League. Other speakers will include author Lee Yee, political commentator Johnny Lau and television programme host Max Wong.
