The government on Friday launched a public consultation exercise to gather opinions from people on what they expect from the Kai Tak Sports Park.

The consultation will last two months, during which opinions can be submitted online or at exhibitions that will be staged in various districts.

People can tell the government what role the 28-hectare park should play when its construction is completed in 2022. They can also explain what they want to do there.

The Commissioner for Sports, Yeung Tak-keung, said it was too early to say if the project, which consists of a main stadium, a public sports ground and an indoor sports centre, would exceed the original estimated cost of HK$25 billion.

He also dismissed suggestions that the project should be scaled back so that the land could be used for housing, saying the planned facilities were important for Hong Kong's sports development.

The online survey and details about the exhibition dates are available at the website of the Kai Tak Sports Park Project.
