The Financial Secretary John Tsang says the 'One Country Two Systems' principle is the only way to protect Hong Kong's uniqueness.

Writing in his blog, Tsang dismissed claims that Hong Kong is relying too much on the mainland. He said China is the world's biggest manufacturer and is a major trading partner with many advanced economies like the US and Japan.

That's why, he said, Hong Kong should strengthen its ties with the mainland so that the SAR can expand its market and "create a bigger pie" for itself.

But Tsang also said Hong Kong should preserve its own culture. He said what he called the "Cantonese culture" has enabled the SAR to connect with neighbouring mainland cities and other South East Asian countries, as well as overseas Chinese around the world.
