The spokeswoman for the Tiananmen Mothers campaign group says it doesn't matter whether young people join Hong Kong's annual June 4th vigil or not, as long as they remember the crackdown on the pro-democracy movement.
You Weijie told RTHK there's no right or wrong way to commemorate the 1989 massacre in Beijing.
Her comments come as student groups like the Hong Kong Federation of Students plan their own events instead of attending Saturday evening's annual candlelight vigil at Victoria Park. They don't agree with the organisers' aim of helping to get democracy on the mainland.
Meanwhile, You said family members of the victims of the crackdown continue to be subject to police surveillance.
She said a founder of the group, Ding Zilin, has had her phone line cut off.
You, whose husband died in the crackdown, said 41 members of the campaigning group have passed away. But she said she’s hopeful that with the advancement of society, the pro-democracy movement will be vindicated.
