The Chinese University of Hong Kong student union has said it will consider upgrading its protests to another level if the government fails to respond to a mass class boycott later this month.
Student union president Tommy Cheung said one course of future action could include a sit-in in Chater Road, similar to what happened on July 2nd when police had to clear protesters from Central.
Members of student unions from 14 tertiary institutions will begin a week-long boycott of classes from September 22nd in protest against Beijing's decision not to allow genuine universal suffrage here.
Mr Cheung said if the government fails to respond to the boycott, that a movement of civil disobedience may be the "only option" to further their cause.
He also said they welcome opinions from those who are against the student boycott, and believes that no students would be coerced into taking part.
