A think tank warned on Friday that building a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport could cause significant environmental damage across the border because mainland industries may have to relocate existing marine infrastructure once the runway comes into operation. The Policy Convenor of Professional Commons, Albert Lai, said large container vessels would be banned from entering the area near the end of the runway for safety reasons.
He said this could affect the operations of some mainland businesses, and force them to move large facilities such as drilling units.
But Mr Lai said the issue was not mentioned in the government's Environmental Impact Assessment report, which he said was 'incomplete and misleading'. |
