Kwok explained the need for a legislation to safeguard the water quality
The Civic Party lawmaker wants new laws to regulate water quality. RTHK photo: Priscilla NgCivic Party lawmaker, Kwok Ka-ki, called on the government to test all residents affected by lead-contaminated water in their buildings.
On Tuesday, officials said all children who were under six when they moved to affected estates would be tested, after blood samples from 40 residents of a public housing estate were found to have excessive lead levels.
Dr Kwok said the government should introduce new and comprehensive legislation to safeguard the quality of drinking water.
But the Health Secretary, Ko Wing-man, said it's difficult to extend the scope of blood tests as government labs are at full capacity.
But he said the Hospital Authority was looking at other alternatives.
