| Nelson Wong has been expelled from the Democratic Party for publicly calling on pan-democratic lawmakers to accept the government's political reform package. Mr Wong, one of the party's founding members, sparked controversy in May when he urged lawmakers to accept the reform package if the central government agreed to make concessions. In the end, the government's electoral reform proposals were voted down in the Legislative Council by the pan-democrats last month. But the Democratic Party accused Mr Wong of damaging the party's reputation. And members of the party's disciplinary committee voted 17-7 on Thursday night to expell him. Mr Wong expressed his disappointment at the vote, saying he found the committee's decision unbelievable. Under the rules of the Democratic Party, he could seek to have the decision overturned. But Mr Wong said it was pointless to do that now. http://rthk.hk/rthk/news/englishnews/20150717/news_20150717_56_1116715.htm |
