Health officials have apologised for a medical blunder at Tuen Mun Hospital that has affected more than 9,000 elderly patients.
The reference range for a liver enzyme analyser was wrongly swapped between male and female patients, and it took the hospital two years to detect this.
An investigation committee has been formed and will submit a report to the Hospital Authority in eight weeks.
The Hospital Authority's chief executive for New Territories West, Tony Ko, said it's unlikely that the error would lead to any misdiagnosis as the error did not affect the final reading of samples.
