Ip Kin-yuen
Education sector lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen has again called on the University of Hong Kong Council to fill a pro-vice-chancellor post according to procedure when it meets again later this month.
The university's search committee recommended the pro-democracy former law dean Johannes Chan for the senior management position late last year.
Speaking on RTHK's Letter to Hong Kong, Mr Ip said the Council's earlier decision to delay the appointment in order to wait for the opinion of a yet-to-be-recruited Provost, who is senior to a pro-vice-chancellor, was clearly a political one.
He said if council members continue to defy convention, the autonomy of not only HKU, but also other universities, would be at stake.
