Members of a Housing Authority committee looking into lead contamination in tap water at several public housing estates have met with four contractors linked to the scandal. Topics for discussion included soldering and prefabricated parts.

Cheung Tat-tong is the committee's chairman. He was asked whether the contractors had explained why lead had been found in their soldering material. Mr Cheung said the matter was still being looked in to by the Water Authority's task force.

However the Authority has decided to phase out the use of pre-fabricated parts for pumping in water pipe construction in all of its future public housing projects. The contractors had said they were difficult to transport, and hygiene risks during installation.
