The Chairman of the MTR Corporation, Raymond Ch'ien, has dismissed complaints over the Fare Adjustment Mechanism, saying the formula is working effectively.
Dozens of protesters chanted slogans during the MTR Hong Kong Race Walking event in Central on Sunday morning, calling for the mechanism to be amended so the railway operator can’t increase fares when it reaps huge profits.
However, Mr Ch'ien said a stable income is necessary for the MTRC to continue to provide reliable services and he doesn’t see an urgent need for the mechanism to be reviewed.
