Chan Kin-man speaks to RTHK's Priscilla Ng
One of the co-founders of the Occupy movement, Chan Kin-man, said on Wednesday that there may be another mass social movement if CY Leung receives Beijing's blessing to run for another term.
Chan said he believes even more people will turn up when another major political movement is triggered to demand genuine democracy.
He said the society is clearly dissatisfied with the current Chief Executive and he believes the run-up to the next CE election in 2017 would be a clear indication as to whether or not he continues to get the blessing of Beijing.
Chan also told RTHK's Priscilla Ng that sentiments, such as localism and radicalism, have emerged as a result of the 79-day occupation, and said these feelings need to be addressed carefully.
The Occupy protest last year was against the government's Beijing-backed political reform package for the 2017 CE election. The proposals effectively allowed pro-establishment forces to screen out candidates deemed unacceptable to the central government. That package was rejected by Legco in June.
