Pro-democracy political parties say they have managed to liaise with each other for the upcoming District Council election in November to avoid pitching candidates against each other.
But a coordinating body formed between eight major political parties said it has learned that their candidates will compete with pro-democracy groups formed after last year's Occupy movement, in at least 14 constituencies out of a total of 341.
A vice-convenor of the body, Joseph Cheng, said the parties have begun their own coordination two years ago, and will not move their candidates to other constituencies to make way for the newcomers.
The coordinating body does not include the radical Civic Passion or other groups affiliated with independent lawmaker Wong Yuk-man.
Nominations for the District Council election will start on October 2.
