Pink Dot Hong Kong 2015

FREE Recommended Sep 20

Pink Dot is back and it’s set to be even more spectacular than last year with plenty more music, entertainment and refreshments. Originally from Singapore, this celebratory event enjoyed a successful HK debut last year with a huge 12,000 participant turn out at Tamar Park. The event is co-organised by LGBTI activist groups BigLove Alliance and Pink Alliance, who are advocating equality, diversity and recognition for the LGBTI community under this year’s theme ‘Love is Love’.

“Following the US Supreme Court ruling in favour of same-sex marriage, there has been an outpouring of global support for love in all its forms,” says co-director of Pink Dot 2015, Abby Lee. “Celebrating this, we’re happy to announce that Pink Dot will take place again just like last year with participants of all ages, sexual orientation, ethnic and socio-cultural backgrounds – all coming together for the same goal.”

The event is happening on Sunday September 20, returning to the lush open space of Tamar Park. “Expect more of a carnival feel this year,” enthuses co-director of Pink Dot 2015, Betty Grisoni. “We have more corporate sponsors this year, so there’s more food and drink vendors and fun activities like balloon tying, bouncy castles and slides. The event is family friendly and non-political, which is why we are improving the entertainment value.”

On the music front, we have headliners Denise Ho and Anthony Wong, as well as rising stars Eman Lam, Yoyo Sham, Ellen Loo, Jing Wong, Supyub Lee and GDJYB. Long-time out-of-the-closet singer Denis Ng is also going to perform his new LGBTI-affirming single, Louganis (named after Olympic diver and gay activist Greg Louganis).

The concert is set to run well into the evening. In between performances, at around 4pm, the crowd is going to gather together to create a giant pink dot for an aerial photo, so remember to wear pink!

Other than that, just relax, have fun and enjoy a free Sunday activity with folk that believe that love is for everyone. Arthur Tam
