A hundred tattoo artists from around the world are competing for the highest honour in the industry at the International Tattoo Convention in Kowloon Tong this weekend.
An overall champion will today receive the Best of the Show honour on the final day of the convention, which kicked off at the InnoCentre on Friday.
"The goal of the tattoo convention is to help the public understand the history and culture of tattooing," organiser Gabe Shum said. "It also offers an opportunity for artists to showcase their skills, and to learn and exchange experiences with others from all around the world."
Shum said London and Paris used to be the hubs for international tattoo artists as both cities had been staging the major annual tattooing event for almost 10 years. It was a dream come true for him to see Hong Kong's participation in the event.
"I am happy to see we have more and more participants from around the world over the years. I am confident the number will … go beyond 100 next year," Shum said. "In some way, its success reflects that Hong Kong has taken the leading role of tattooing in Asia."
Artists from Europe, Britain, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and mainland China flew in to showcase their talent and meet their local counterparts. Entry tickets for public cost HK$120, HK$150 and HK$180.
