Wong Hung talks to RTHK's Lydia Sung
A study suggests that there are four times more homeless people taking shelter in 24-hour fast food outlets than two years ago.
The City University of Hong Kong report for 2015 found that there were more than 1,600 homeless people in Hong Kong, a 14 percent jump from 2013.
One in six of them slept in 24-hour restaurants, while almost half of them slept on the streets.
A Social Work Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Wong Hung, who took part in the study, said rents have risen sharply in recent years forcing lower-income people out on to the streets, and fast-food outlets offered them a respite from the heat and humidity.
