The Hong Kong Cabin Crew Federation says the director-general of Civil Aviation, Norman Lo, has agreed to meet them to discuss baggage regulations, following an incident involving the Chief Executive’s daughter in March.
The Airport Authority had earlier insisted that it was unnecessary for CY Leung’s daughter, Leung Chung-yan, to be present when a bag she forgot to bring through security checks at the airport was X-rayed. The bag was then handed to her in the airport’s restricted zone.
One of the federation’s executive members, Dora Lai, said she will demand a clear explanation from Lo about why passengers are not required to be present during security checks, adding that authorities had compromised aviation safety.
A report by authorities into the controversy said nothing untoward had happened, and the bag had gone through long-standing security requirements before it was delivered. The report added that there were 517 such "courtesy deliveries" in the previous 12 months.
The saga prompted a large protest at the airport over the claims that safety rules had been breached and the Chief Executive had put pressure on staff to give his family special treatment.
