A 58-year-old woman and her three-year-old grandson were lucky to escape serious injury after they were hit by a taxi that ran a red light during a rainstorm.
The woman, surnamed Yu, was pushing her grandson in a stroller at the corner of Cheung Sha Wan Road and Tai Nan West Street in Cheung Sha Wan when the taxi came barreling toward them, Apple Daily reports.
The impact hurled the stroller several meters with the toddler in it while the woman was knocked to the ground.
Both suffered minor injuries.
The 38-year-old taxi driver and a female passenger were also hurt.
The child might have been saved by the five-point safety harness on the stroller which is the same brand used by the British royal family, according to Ming Pao Daily.
All were brought to hospital where they were later discharged.
Police arrested the driver, surnamed Leung, for dangerous driving.
Investigations are focused on whether the accident was due to slippery road conditions.
A four-minute video clip of the incident has gone viral, sparking outrage from netizens who accused the driver of ignoring the victims.
They demanded that his driving licensed be revoked permanently.
Lawmaker Gary Fan, who sits on the transport panel, said taxi drivers who drive fast in order to pick up more passengers have been a public safety concern.
He said stricter measures are needed to change this behavior.
