One of the giant cloth banners. Photo: Damon PangThe Occupy Central campaign has started a march from Causeway Bay to Central, accusing Beijing of breaking its promise to give Hong Kong universal suffrage.
That claim is one of several messages written on long pieces of black cloth carried by about 1,000 protesters, with others reading "civil disobedience" and "class boycott". The campaigners stressed this is not the start of the main Occupy Central protest.
One of the organisers, Benny Tai, says their upcoming actions are not necessarily protests to the central or Hong Kong governments, but a call for the public to join their cause.
