Government grilled about elderly home monitoring

23-07-2015
Lawmakers and local pressure groups grilled the government over its stagnant approach when it monitors more than 500 private residential elderly care homes in the city.
About 40 representatives from a range of elderly care concern groups attended a Legco meeting and urged the Social Welfare Department to revamp its law and inspection method.
They are responding to a media report in May - where some inmates of an elderly home were kept naked on an open podium before their shower.
The Director of Social Welfare, Carol Yip, said the authority is open to comments but stressed that the current monitoring system is of standard.
