Task force on lead contamination starts work today

The panel will look into the quality of pipes and soldering materials used. RTHK photoA task force established to look into the causes of the water contamination at two public housing estates is set to hold its first meeting on Friday.

One of the panel members, Chan Hon-fai, said the task force will look into the soldering materials that had been used in the water pipes, as well as the taps and pre-fabricated materials to determine where the lead came from.

Meanwhile, the government will arrange for affected Kai Ching residents to undergo blood tests at United Christian Hospital from Saturday onwards. Kwai Luen Estate residents, on the other hand, will go to Princess Margaret Hospital for tests on July 25 and 26.

Results are expected within four days of the tests.
