The plumber linked by the government to the tainted water supplies in two housing estates has defended his work and revealed that it is likely that similar materials are used in private estates also.Lam Tak-sum - who has been named by the government as responsible for work at the two estates where lead contamination has been found - said the material he used on the affected blocks is the same as that used by other licensed plumbers on hospital projects and in private housing. Mr Lam is the licensed plumber for five public housing estates. But his employer, Ho Biu Kee Construction Engineering Company, has two or three other plumbers who have been licensed for other housing projects. Mr Lam expressed hope that his employer would speak up about the whole matter, and not just leave it up to him. A member of the Housing Authority, Wong Sing-chi, also said the main contractor should be held responsible for the water contamination, and should immediately take action to rectify the situation.
