The Secretary for Food and Health, Ko Wing-man, says now is not the right time to lift the two-tin export limit on baby milk formula as some districts in Hong Kong were still facing supply shortages .
He was responding to calls for the restrictions to be scrapped, amid falling retail sales in the territory.
But Ko said a study commissioned by the government showed supply remained tight in several areas, including North District.
He said another study was underway to help prepare for the Lunar New Year holiday, when the problem is usually most acute.
