Government sources say a task force investigating the lead-contaminated tap water scare at public housing estates will submit an initial report by the end of the month.
It is said to have found that the lead content of soldering materials in pipe joints at two estates was exceptionally high and the heavy metal may have dissolved into the water.
The task force will recommend measures to prevent similar contamination in the future, and it may propose an overhaul of the Waterworks Ordinance which dates back to 1975.
