Former chief executive, Donald Tsang, has once again stressed his innocence after making an appearance in Eastern Court on two counts of misconduct in public office.
"My conscience is clear. I have every confidence that the court will exonerate me at the end of its proceedings", he said.
After making his statement Tsang left, leaving his wife, Selina, to face the media throng. She then gave an emotional statement describing her husband as a "righteous and honest" person who only wanted to do his job well and do his utmost to serve the people.
"We had wanted to lead peaceful and quiet lives after retirement, far away from politics. Unfortunately, that cannot happen, and we were dragged into this storm, she said. The most unusual thing is that we have continually been harassed everyday over the past three and a half years, she added. However, she did not go into details about who had harassed them.
No plea was taken from Donald Tsang. His cash bail of HK$100,000 was extended and he was ordered to appear in court again on November 13.
The prosecution said that in the meantime, it will arrange for the case to be transferred to the Court of First Instance.
Tsang was the chief executive for seven years from 2005 and has become the highest-ranking Hong Kong official to face corruption allegations.
