Priscilla Ng reports
Police are maintaining tight security outside Eastern Court, where a pro-democracy activist and seven officers who allegedly beat up him during the Occupy protests last year are due to appear on Monday afternoon in separate cases.
The officers are accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the beating of Civic Party member Ken Tsang in a dark corner of Tamar Park last October. Television footage of the incident showed a man being repeatedly punched and kicked.
Tsang in turn is charged with assaulting police for allegedly splashing a number of officers from an embankment, and resisting arrest.
Banners supporting the accused officers have been set up by members of so-called "blue ribbon" groups who have called a rally outside the court Monday afternoon during the suspects' scheduled appearance.
Metal barriers have been set up to maintain order.
More than 40 people joined a protest on Sunday, accusing the authorities of charging Tsang to divert attention away from the case against the officers.
