The Society for Community Organisation (SoCo) has urged the government to impose rent controls to make housing more affordable for the homeless.

Public concern about the plight of the homeless was raised after a woman was found dead in a McDonald's fast-food outlet in Kowloon Bay on Saturday. Reports said she was homeless and regularly spent her nights in the restaurant which operates 24-hours a day. No identification documents were found on her.

A community organiser with SoCo, Ng Wai-tung, said some people sleep on the streets as they cannot afford the rising rents, even though they are employed.
