Junius Ho
A newly-appointed member of the Lingnan University’s governing body, Junius Ho, said on Sunday that the community should think carefully proposals to amend a law that automatically names the Chief Executive as the chancellor of all universities in Hong Kong.
Ho, whose recent appointment to the Council of Lingnan University sparked widespread controversy due to his pro-government stance, said students should not force the government to amend the University Ordinance, warning this would show a complete disregard for due process.
Calls for a change emerged following allegations that the Chief Executive, CY Leung, had pressured the governing body of the University of Hong Kong to defer the appointment of pro-democracy scholar Johannes Chan as its pro-vice-chancellor.
The governing body later rejected Chan’s appointment and Leung said he had not intervened in its decision.
