The student union of Shue Yan University has confirmed that its president-designate Joe Yeung and another student are among the six people arrested in connection with a small blast outside the Legislative Council about two weeks ago.
The union said on its Facebook page that it had learnt that the students were already being accompanied by lawyers and added that it would provide all necessary support.
Yeung, 22, is a fourth year student of history in the private university. He was a former auxiliary police officer and had taken part in the pro-democracy Occupy Central protest last year.
Police are still investigating the motives behind the alleged arson attack at Legco on December 9, just hours after a scheduled meeting to debate the controversial Copyright (Amendment) Bill was adjourned.
