The Financial Secretary, John Tsang, says the rise of localism in recent years shows that Hong Kong people are strongly proud of their own identity, traditions and culture. He said such pride can exist in a country and a school.
Writing on his weekly blog, Tsang said that strong feelings from local people can be consolidated into a constructive and positive force for making Hong Kong a better place.
He said localism need not become a kind of protectionism which is destructive and negative.
