If you've tried to navigate the paywall of the South China Morning Post from Hong Kong this afternoon, you probably got the delightful graphic pictured above.
The publication’s computer servers went down today at about 1pm, and came back online at around 4.44pm.
A customer service representative could only say the site went down because of a “system problem”, and that technicians were working to fix the problem. The site appeared to be down across its whole network.
The news organisation tweeted this at 3.26pm:
When Jack Ma said the SCMP's paywallwould come down, we didn't think he meant the whole thing would go with it! In a statement on Ma's acquisition of the paper, Chief Executive Officer of SCMP Robin Hu said, "Alibaba is in an excellent position to leverage technology to create content more efficiently and reach a global audience."
