Hongkongers’ trust in the Hong Kong government, the central government and confidence in “one country, two systems” has risen, Ming Pao reported Thursday, citing a survey.
The Public Opinion Program of the University of Hong Kong (HKUPOP) showed rises in all three areas in its latest survey from one done three months ago.
HKUPOP polled 1,012 Hongkongers between Dec. 10 and Dec. 15 in a random telephone survey conducted by real interviewers.
The net trust in the central government (the percentage of respondents saying they trust it minus the percentage of those who say they do not trust it) rose significantly, by 8 percentage points, to negative 1 percent.
Half the respondents were confident in “one country, two systems”. Net confidence in the principle was 7 percent, 14 percentage points higher than three months ago.
However, most young people aged between 18 to 25 do not have confidence in “one country, two systems”.
Of these respondents, 62 percent said they do not trust the central government, and 63 percent said they don’t have confidence in “one country, two systems”.
