The government says it won’t withdraw or alter the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, after a Legislative Council meeting where it was due to be discussed was abruptly adjourned.
Speaking after the adjournment, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Greg So insisted the bill has already been discussed at length.
He said the government will spend the coming week clearing up people’s "misconceptions" over the legislation.
So also said this doesn’t mean the government won’t look at other issues at a subsequent stage.
"We already promised, after this bill has gone through the legislature, we will look at those issues, like user-generated content, like fair use, like contract override," he said. "These three areas, at this point in time, there is no consensus. You need longer deliberation."
