A parents group has expressed doubts over the effectiveness of a new government guideline asking schools not to drill students for a territory wide assessment test.
On Friday, the Education Bureau said schools will be given warning letters if they force students to study for the Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA), and Education Secretary Eddie Ng has warned schools not to flout the guideline.
But an organizer for the Alliance for Children Development Rights, Catlyn Ho, said parents are not convinced by the government's latest move.
She said parents were unsure how schools would react to warning letters, questioning whether a letter would be enough to deter the school.
Critics of Hong Kong’s education system say too much pressure is being put on young students.
Education groups also expressed concern after a survey of local primary four to secondary five students found that only two-thirds are satisfied with the amount of leisure time they get.
The survey found that students are spending more time at school and more time doing homework, compared to a similar poll carried out 12 years ago.
